Our facilities and surroundings
Designed to meet the residents’ specific needs, there are single and double rooms located over 3 floors and including a choice of communal areas in which to relax or socialise. Upper floors are accessible by elevator and each room has a nurse call system in place.
The main house is built on three levels with a mezzanine floor modelled on a garden tea room.
On the ground floor there is a large lounge, dining room and sunny conservatory.
An indoor garden and decking area are accessible, with a sensory garden and planting areas easily reached from a wheelchair.
An internal link corridor connects the main house to the most recent extension of twelve en-suite rooms which also has its own entrance, a hairdressing salon and attractive patio area.
A central courtyard is accessible from the unit with vegetable boxes, patio table and chairs. On a good day you can find the residents enjoying lunch on the patio, their toes splashing in the paddling pools!
Bird feeders abound and are a constant source of interest and stimulation for the residents.
We are an animal friendly home and have two resident cats, visiting staff dogs and swallows, returning every year to nest. The gardens also welcome pheasant, deer and squirrels, providing a fascinating window into the natural world!
Feeling at home at Cholwell
Although furnished and equipped to ensure comfort and privacy, we encourage residents to personalise their rooms with items of furniture, paintings, photographs, ornaments; anything that will enhance their private space and make the transition to communal living more seamless.
There are no scheduled visiting times at Cholwell; you are always welcome!
It is important to us that you feel part of ‘our’ extended family and feel comfortable and relaxed when visiting your loved one. Do not feel pressurised to visit…it must be a pleasurable experience and one that you feel you can manage with ease.
Mealtimes represent a very important time of the day and it is our aim to provide a healthy, varied diet in the positive and ambient atmosphere of our French bistro. All meals are prepared on the premises by our own chefs using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to provide an appetising, interesting menu. We also cater for any specialised diets.
Cholwell House holds an environmental health 5 star certificate for food hygiene award by Bath & North East Somerset.
